Session Description:
Overview of the Strategic Plan for Addressing Asthma and outline Georgia's Asthma Plan for FY '09.

Asthma is the 2nd leading health problem among school-aged children in Georgia. Asthma can be controlled by following a medical management plan and avoiding contact with environmental "triggers." In addition to identifying common environmental factors that affect asthma, this presentation will review the essential nature of completing an environmental history to determine an appropriate and effective plan for asthma management.


Session Objectives:
  • Discuss opportunities for involvement and program implementation/evaluation in the GA Asthma Plan.
  • Describe the value of a complete environmental history.
  • Identify indoor/outdoor triggers of an acute asthma episode.
  • Describe the impact of occupational exposures on adult asthma prevalence.

Technology Requirements:
Participants registering for programs should have access to the following technology for best viewing and participation:
  • Personal computer with Macintosh or Windows with 512 MB of RAM
  • Broadband internet connection such as an office LAN, DSL, or cable modem
  • Phone next to personal computer (or speaker phone if multiple people are viewing)
  • Computer speakers (built-in or attached)
  • Latest version of Adobe Flash which can be downloaded for free at http://www.adobe.com/
