SOWEGA-AHEC, in partnership with Tift Regional Medical Center and the UGA College of Pharmacy, has developed CE/CME/ACPE opportunities for healthcare professionals. CURE Activities are presented by experienced practitioners who share cutting edge educational content.

Those interested in watching without receiving CE/CME/ACPE, the programs are FREE. Attendees requesting CE/CME/ACPE, must complete an evaluation and pay a nominal fee.

Session Description:

Dr. Linda Boyd shares the significance of using evidence-based medicine to find the best current evidence to answer questions that arise with patient care. She discusses how drilling down to the most productive and available resources will provide healthcare practitioners with best information that will allow them to provide the most appropriate patient care. Dr. Boyd offers the family physician perspective in comparing the following evidence-based research resources: the Cochran Library, Clinical Evidence, Essential Evidence Plus, DynaMed, eMedicine, and Up-To-Date.


Session Objectives:
Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
  1. Explain how healthcare providers typically make clinical decisions.
  2. Describe basic principles of evidence-based medicine.
  3. Describe resources available for quality evidence.

About Linda Boyd, DO
Dr. Linda Boyd is a Professor of Family Medicine and the Associate Dean for Regional Campus Coordination for Georgia Health Sciences University Medical College of Georgia. She is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, and the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians.

Dr. Linda Boyd completed her Family Practice Residency with St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in New Jersey. She holds board certification from the American Board of Family Medicine.

Dr. Linda Boyd has spent the last 10 years teaching medical students, nurses, physicians and the public about evidence-based medicine. She is also a member of the Evidence-based working group of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine and reviews Evidence-based teaching materials for the Family Medicine Digital Resource Library.
